Want to teach real estate in Illinois? Becoming a licensed instructor is a great way to share your expertise and guide real estate licensees. The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) offers two instructor license types: Pre-License Instructor and Continuing Education (CE) Instructor. Pre-License Instructor License
Obtaining this license allows for teaching of ALL types of real estate education including post-license, Core, and Broker Management Continuing Education.
Requirements

Pass an IDFPR approved and PSI administered instructor exam with a score of 75 or higher.

Meet one expertise qualifier:

Active broker or managing broker for the last 2 years, or
-
Admitted to practice law in Illinois, or
-
At least 2 years of teaching experience, or
-
Relevant professional background and experience.

Complete 12 hours of DRE-approved instructor training:

6-hour Instructor Development Workshop

6-hour Instructor Pre-License Topics and Guidelines

Continuing Education (CE) Instructor License
Obtaining this license allows for teaching of ELECTIVE Continuing Education only. You must obtain a pre-license instructor license to teach pre-license, post-license, Core, and Broker Management Continuing Education.
Requirements
- Complete one 6-hour DRE-approved Instructor Development Course.

Note: IDECC or IREEF certification does not meet this requirement.

Meet one experience qualifier (for the last 3 years):

Active broker or managing broker, or
-
Licensed attorney with real estate work or real estate teaching, or
-
Credentialed real estate instructor (for example, DREI), or
-
Approved by a college or university to teach a real estate degree program, or

Licensed or certified in a related profession (appraiser, mortgage loan originator, home inspector, auctioneer, CPA), or
-
Qualified by education or experience under Section 30-25 of the Act. The Division may consider teaching experience, real estate experience, and related business or legal education.
