The current broker license renewal cycle ended April 30, 2026. Illinois School of Real Estate offers easy and convenient online packages to complete your education from the comfort of your home or office, on your own time. Your completion notice is sent directly to IDFPR when your course is processed — saving you time.

PRIOR TO Nov. 1, 2023

12 hours of CE between May 1, 2024 and Apr. 30, 2026. Must include:

  • 6 hours of Core CE that includes 2 hours of Fair Housing CE, and
  • 6 hours of elective CE that includes 1 hour of sexual harassment prevention training.

Brokers Licensed

Nov. 1, 2023 to Oct. 31, 2025

45 hour Broker Post-License on or before Apr. 30, 2026. Must include:

  • Three 15-hour courses, each ending with a 50-question exam
  • Note: The post-license curriculum includes the required Sexual Harassment Prevention training.

ON or AFTER Nov. 1, 2025

45 hour Broker Post-License on or before Apr. 30, 2028.

IDFPR’s Broker license renewal portal is now open for brokers to renew their licenses online. Broker licensees should have received an email notification from IDFPR with login information and must renew their licenses prior to the April 30, 2026 deadline.

The online License Lookup is updated daily and any changes should appear the next business day after your renewal application has been processed. However, it could take a few more days to process your application, depending on the volume of online renewals. You may check your license status using IDFPR online License Lookup. Changes usually appear the next business day after your renewal application has been processed. During high volume periods, processing may be delayed one or two business days.

Do not submit a renewal application until your education requirements are complete! If you try to renew without completing the required education, you could face a public license discipline and fines of up to $2,000.

Add a $75 late charge to the normal $200 renewal fee, for a total of $275.

Yes. Make sure you keep records of your completed education, online renewal confirmation and payment for proof purposes in the case of an audit. Primary source verification and evidence that you are licensed can be obtained free of charge by visiting the IDFPR “Print My License” website or IDFPR online License Lookup. If IDFPR does not have a current email address for you, please notify them immediately. Click here to login and change your email address under “Online Services – Update My Contact Info”

  1. If you already renewed it is likely that the Department will catch this in the audit. You should take the post license course work as soon as possible so that your records may be sent to the Department. You may still be fined up to $25 per credit hour, but it is always best to notify the department to avoid additional penalties. Unfortunately, the CE you have completed will not count for your next renewal cycle.

You can use IDFPR’s Print My License to print a copy of your license. You may also store an electronic copy on your smartphone or tablet instead of carrying a paper license pocket card.

You can complete your education on or after May 1, 2026 for the 2028 renewal.

If you receive a deficiency notice email from IDFPR, do not ignore itYou should respond to a deficiency notice before the deadline listed in the notice to avoid disciplinary action and substantial fines. Take one of these actions to remedy the deficiency:

  • Immediately complete the courses identified in the notice to satisfy the deficiency and submit the certificates of completion along with the IDFPR deficiency citation fine. Your submission will not be reviewed or considered until payment is received by IDFPR.
  • Provide evidence of compliance by submitting copies of the certificates of course completion for each of the courses identified in the notice to the Department.

Completing your continuing education requirements in a timely fashion during each renewal cycle will help your license remain in good standing. Be sure to update your email address regularly with IDFPR to ensure you receive all notifications.

License renewal is required for Illinois real estate licensees every two years. Education requirements for renewal are based upon the date an individual was originally licensed in Illinois.  Broker license renewal and Residential Leasing Agent license renewal occur in even-numbered years. Managing Broker license renewal occurs in odd-numbered years.

Online courses

Study anytime, anywhere! These courses are flexible and self-paced. Online courses can be taken on any device with Wi-Fi access. Course materials are available 24/7. Read at your own pace and retake online quizzes as many times as you like. No final exam is required.

Accelerated pre-license course

This program provides online access to live sessions with an instructor once or twice per week, for 3-4 hours, depending on the class you choose. Between live sessions, students complete assignments and self-guided study with 24/7 access to online coursework.

Students can complete all 75 hours of broker pre-license education in less than three months!

Webinars

Our webinars are live online courses with instructor interaction. Students interact with the instructor via chat, polls and quiz questions and must be present the entire duration of the course.

Classroom courses

Live classroom courses are offered at branch locations throughout the state.  Class schedules are updated daily.
